Reading = At the end of the week, we used Summarizing as our focus.  Team Meyer used the non-fiction piece called Seahorses to state the most important aspects of what they read.  This week we will also move into an Inferencing focus using The Story of King Midas which some may be familiar with.

Writing = Last week, we worked on reflecting on our last writing unit as well as an Earth Day writing piece.  This week, we will practice some editing strategies, rejuvenate our idea banks, and work towards one of our final writing units together.

Spelling = After two weeks off with MAP testing, we are ready to hit our spelling for another couple of weeks.  New words will be sent home on Monday and we will test on Friday.

Math = Last week, we reviewed for and completed the Mathematics section of the MAP test.  Team Meyer worked very hard while working  through the problems, showing their work, and checking over answers.  This week we will begin to review concepts we have touched on earlier in the year.  One topic that we began to recall was two digit multiplication and the most efficient ways to solve those problems.  We will mix these in with geometry aspects as well.

Content = We will be reviewing and exploring more about the Famous Missourian = Laura Ingalls Wilder.  Please feel free to check out the links below which we will be looking at this week while reading Little House on the Prairie.  On Friday, we have our Field Trip to Mansfield for more hands-on exploration.  Please remember to send in the permission slip signed and $2 for admission.  Thank you all for your support as always!

Writing = We will continue working on our "Special Places" within our Informational/Explanatory writing pieces.  At the end of last week, we worked a lot on our graphic organizer and color coding our ideas in order to create the best five paragraph writing pieces.  This week, our focus will be on revising for better leads and dialogue as well as similes and sensory details.

Math = We have begun Chapter 13 where we explore both Area and Perimeter.  We will be using models to find the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles.  These are the definitions we will be thinking about = Perimeter: the distance around a shape or region. Area: the number of square units needed to cover the inside of a region or plane figure.  Please look at real-world objects at home and ask your 4th grader to outline the perimeter or point to the area of the object.  The more we can use the vocabulary the better.

Content = Science = On Friday, we talked about Arbor Day which takes place in late April.  We also took home our Red bud trees.  A huge thanks to the Conservation Department for the great trees!  This week we will be going on our field trip to the Nature Center for our Science Exploration.
