Plays of Week #23

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Tuesday 2/2= Library Check out
Friday 2/5 = Spelling Test

Next Week... Valentine's Party = February 12th

Reading  = Inferring is a major focus in 4th grade and we will begin to dig into it deeply this week.  We want to think about what the author tells us and what background knowledge we have within ourselves.  Our Mentor text is entitled Hurricane.

Writing = The week we will continue planning our Unit 2b: Adventure Fiction.  By the end of the week we should be drafting our stories.

Math = Last week, Mrs. C our Math coach came to our classroom as we began to visualize fractions.  We had some great conversations and experiences!  This week we will be continuing to look at equivalent fractions and putting fractions in simplest form.

Spelling = Team Meyer will receive new words on Monday.  We will work with these words throughout the week and Test on Friday.  

Social Studies= Last week our main focus was to look at Missouri's regions.  At the beginning of this week, we will finish our postcards from the Glacial Plains, Osage Plains, Ozark Highlands, and Mississippi Lowlands.  Then we will turn our focus to Missouri Government.

Plays of Week #22

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Tuesday 2/26= Library Check out
Friday 1/29 = Big Event and Spelling Test

Reading  = This week we will be looking at analyzing  story elements as well as using our Questioning techniques through out the books we read.  We will use the mentor text Basket Moon. (continued from our last snowy week)

Writing = We began brainstorming our Unit 2b: Adventure Fiction.  Last week we had two days of analyzing what an Imagined Narrative is and how we can create one.  This week begin our story sequences.  I love the ideas that are flowing already!

Math = We began Chapter 8 on Fractions.  This week we will look at equivalent fractions in visual forms as well as number form.  We will wrap up the week starting to look at fractions in simplest form. 

Spelling = Due to snow days last week, we will not have new words this week.  Students will continue to use the list they received last week.  We will test over the words on Friday.

Social Studies= Last week we started our exploration of Missouri regions.  The four regions we are looking at are the Glacial Plains, Osage Plains, Ozark Highlands, and Mississippi Lowlands.  This upcoming week will continue to look at these areas and create digital trading cards to represent them.

Plays of Week #21

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Monday 1/18 = No School
Tuesday 1/19= Library Check out

Reading  = This week we will be looking at analyzing  story elements as well as using our Questioning techniques through out the books we read.  We will use the mentor text Basket Moon.

Writing = This week we will begin our Unit 2b: Adventure Fiction.  Our focus this week will be to brainstorm and begin our story sequences.

Math = We are beginning Chapter 8 on Fractions this week.  Please look for Chapter 7 Test going home early this week as well.  Our focuses on fractions will be to look at factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and equivalent fractions. 

Spelling = New words will be sent home on Tuesday.  Please work with the sorts given and practice the words lists.  Our Test will be on Friday.

Social Studies= This week we are beginning our exploration with Missouri regions.

Plays of Week #20

Monday 1/11 = Multiplication Test and New Spelling Words
Tuesday 1/12= Library Check out
Thursday 1/14 = Chapter 7 Math Test
Friday 1/15  = Multiplication Test

Reading  = This week we will be looking at analyzing  story elements as well as using our Questioning techniques through out the books we read.  We will use the mentor texts The Bat Boy and His Violin and Teammates.

Writing = We will be beginning a civil rights unit within writing and content sections of the day.  Team Meyer and Team Eaton will work together to look at Martin Luther King Jr. as well as other powerful leaders then and now.  We will also think about what our "Dreams" are for the future and change.

Math = This week we will be wrapping up Chapter 7 about patterns and sequences.  On Monday, we will look at order of operations and then with equations with multiple operations.  On Wednesday, we will review and test on Thursday.

Spelling = New words will be sent home on Monday.  Please work with the sorts given and practice 

Social Studies= We will be combining our Writing and Social Studies times to take a deeper look at a Civil Rights unit.

Plays of Week #19

Monday 1/4 = first day back at Portland, Math Test sent home, and Multiplication Test
Tuesday 1/5= Library Check out
and Middle of the year Spelling Assessment
Friday 1/8  = Multiplication Test

Reading  = We are going to take a look back at 2015 through nonfiction Time for Kids.  We will use several reading strategies to reflect on the year.  We will be reading to look for important details, summarizing, and determining what we may want to research further.

Writing = This week we are going to be brainstorming our Resolutions and goals for the year.  We will also be thinking of how we can turn our thinking into a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset.  Writer's Notebooks will be reflected on as well.

Math = Monday we will be getting back our Chapter 6 Test and beginning Chapter 7.  It is begins with thinking about patterns and sequences.  At the end of this week and the beginning of next week, we will be looking at incorporating more operations.  We will also be going back to our multiplication tests to build confidence in our facts.

Spelling = We will not be getting new spelling words this week because we will be reassessing our spelling groups this week.  Be sure to look for new words next week with our normal schedule.

Science= We will get back our matter test this week.  Be sure to check out our science experiments below and on the walls of Portland.
