Plays of Week #3

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Tuesday 9/1 = Library Check-out and Math Test

Reading  = This week we will be setting Reading goals for this week as well as in our classroom in general.  Thank you for those of you who completed your Reading Log each day this past week.  Look for another this week in their red folders.  Also, be sure to check out some of the routines and procedures we worked on last week below.  I love seeing Team Meyer getting excited about reading!

Writing = Writing, Writing, Writing is what was happening this past week.  I am thrilled with how our Writer's Notebooks are going.  I will collect about 7 student notebook each week.  This Friday I collected my first group and was so happy with everything I saw.  Remember to take risks in your notebook and brainstorm ideas.  Your writing homework is every Monday and Wednesday - if you cannot write on those days you can substitute for other days in which you can during the week.

Math = We will be reviewing Chapter 1 about Place Value tomorrow.  Our test will be on Tuesday.  To help your child study I would focus on the value of digits and rounding to specific place values.  Later this week, we will begin Chapter 2 thinking of Addition and Subtraction.

Spelling = This week we will continue our Spelling routines with a whole group list with commonly used words.  Please be looking for the list to come home on Monday and test on Friday.

Content = We will continue to think about Digital Citizenship.  It is important that we teach our kids how to use technology properly and in the most appropriate ways.

PBL= Thank you for those of you who turned in the parent survey!  We really appreciate it!  Please sure to ask your child what we began on Thursday and Friday.  We showed them our "Entry event" and this week are hoping to bring in some guest speakers and look at our Driving Question.  There are pictures below of what we have begun.

Plays of the Week #2

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Tuesday 8/25 = Library Check-out

Reading  = This week we have been establishing routines in our classroom.  We thought about how we choose books, what Reader's Workshop looks like, and even reminded ourselves how to pick books that fit us.  We will continue to do this as well as thinking about working together as Readers.  Lastly, on Friday we were about to get to the library for library check out time.  We will be beginning our Reading Log this week so be sure to look for it in the red folders.

Writing = Check out all the writers working this past week!  I was so impressed with how Team Meyer decorated their Writer's Notebooks in order to make it their own.  We are trying lots of different styles in our notebooks this week so be sure to check out your child's Monday and Wednesday when they write at home this week.

Math = We have began Chapter 1 where we explore Place Value.  This upcoming week, we will be thinking about ordering numbers, using place value to round, and working with more word problems.  I was very impressed with how everyone was able to turn in their Math homework this past week!  Keep up the great work!

Spelling = This week we will begin to go over our Spelling routines.  To practice, we will be testing over the Days of the week on Friday.  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Please be looking for the list to come home on Monday and test on Friday.

Content = We will be using a lot of technology this year so this year we are going to be thinking about our Digital Citizenship this week to prepare us.  It is important that we teach our kids how to use technology properly and in the most appropriate ways.

Plays of the 1st Two Days

Happy First 2 days of School!

We have had a great time getting to know our Teammates in Team Meyer these first 2 days!  This week we will continue to learn how to work together as well as learn procedures for 4th Grade this year.  We will begin testing for placement in Math, Reading, Writing, and Spelling in order to begin creating small groups for more differentiated learning.

Our favorite activity so far has overwhelmingly been the "What's in the Sack?" activity where the students got to know a little bit more about their teacher and classmates.  Please check out some of the great items that were brought in.  More will come this week as well.

Reading = We brainstormed our Summer Reading Plans last week.  Please ask your child what they came up with for this summer. (pictures of the examples below)  The packets will be sent home this week and if Team Meyer returns them in the fall filled in they will receive a prize from the 4th grade teachers.  We are hoping it will promote more reading over the summer which will in turn help them be more successful within 5th grade.  They do not need to read in all 100 places, but rather there are some ideas to mix up their reading routine this summer.

Writing = Please check Team Meyer's letters to the future 4th graders for next year.  We reflected on activities and projects we have worked on this year.  My favorite part was the advice they came up for the kids next year.  This week we are going to finish up our Team Meyer Memory book and read a letter we wrote to ourselves at the very beginning of the school year.

Spelling = We will not have any more Spelling words this year.  Team Meyer took their spelling things home on Friday.

Content = This week we will be working with some of our last team building experiences as Team Meyer.

Math = Tomorrow we are completing our Dream Houses.  I think this is Team Meyer's favorite project all year!  Please check out the pictures below of the planning and calculations they have been making so far.  We are also going to put them in the hallway for all to enjoy so please be sure to check them out.  Later this week, we will be reviewing fractions.

Spelling = We are taking our end of the year spelling test to see where Team Meyer has grown within their overall spelling year.  There will be a "Summer Word List" that will be sent home Monday and we will work with these words this week.

Content = We will do many team building reflections this week and next throughout our content time.  As we wrap up the year it is a great time to make goals for the summer and future as well.
