Reading  = Thank you for your support through testing last week.  We have finished MAP testing, but will be doing some SPS end of the year testing next week.  This week we will be working towards our Lexia goals as well as finishing our Library books.

Writing = We will continue combining our writing and PBL exploration.  This looks like journal in the field and our outdoor classroom.  We will also be reflecting through our online journal which is our Google classroom site.

Math = This week we will be testing over MAP through Math on Tuesday and Thursday.  We will also be reviewing other 4th grade skills and wrapping up our Geometry chapter.

Spelling = We will not have new spelling words this week due to testing.  On Monday, we will take our QSI placement test to see our growth this year.

PBL: Ecosystems= This week we will be looking at Nature Unleashed Chapters 7 and 8. We are also working to research our Ecosystem (Pond, Forest, and Prairie) and Problems (littering, vandalism, deforestation, and prairie).

Reading  = The Reading Strategies we will be reviewing this week will include Cause and Effect and Fact and Opinion.  Please continue to encourage your child to read at home, but I will not be sending home any official reading log anymore.  Thank you to all of those who have worked with their child throughout the year to complete these and enhance reading strategy use at home.  This week, we will be testing over Reading through MAP on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. 

Writing = We will continue looking at test taking strategies and ways to respond to questions.  We want to answer in complete sentences and include all important details with appropriate grammar use.

Math = This week we will be working with Chapter 14: Geometry.  This chapter is heavy with vocabulary so we will be creating a Geometry Vocabulary Journal to help build confidence.  Next week, we will be MAP testing over Math so we will also be reviewing this week.

Spelling = We will not have new spelling words this week due to testing.

PBL: Ecosystems= This week we will be looking at Nature Unleashed Chapters 5 and 6.  We are also working to research our Ecosystem (Pond, Forest, and Prairie) and Problems (littering, vandalism, deforestation, and prairie).

Reading  = The Reading Strategies we will be reviewing this week will include summarizing and making inferences.  This is our last full week of regular reading time before testing.  Please continue to encourage your child to read at home, but I will not be sending home any official reading log anymore.  Thank you to all of those who have worked with their child throughout the year to complete these and enhance reading strategy use at home.  

Writing = We will be looking at test taking strategies and ways to respond to questions.  We want to answer in complete sentences and include all important details with appropriate grammar use.

Math = Chapter 13 deals with Area and Perimeter this week.  We will also be doing another 3 Act Math lesson with our wonderful math coach Mrs. Castillo.  We have two weeks until we are testing for Math so we are looking at review problems as well.

Spelling = We will not have new spelling words this week due to a short week.

PBL: Ecosystems= This week we will be looking at Nature Unleashed Chapter 3: Food Chains as well as working in our PBL focus groups (shown below).

Plays of Week #31

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Friday 4/8 = Spelling Test and Big Event 80's Style

4th Grade Musical Performance = April 14th
Sign Up for Explore  = June and July
MAP Testing 4th Grade = starting April 18

Reading  = This week we will begin looking at several reading strategies before testing.  We have two weeks before we begin testing and we will be reviewing test taking strategies in the process.  

Writing = This week we will be integrating technology with our Famous Missourian project.  We will have many options for creating a QR code: Powtoon, Google Slides, and Voki.

Math = Chapter 12 begins this week.  We will be looking at the Metric Measurement system.  Length, capacity, mass, and conversions will be seen throughout the week.  On Thursday, perimeter will also begin to be explored.

Spelling = Team Meyer will receive new words on Monday.  We will work with these words throughout the week and Test on Friday.  

PBL: Ecosystems= Please check out the pictures below from the Springfield Nature Center field trip we went on last Friday.  Also, the exploration with Jay Barber.  This week we will explore our 3 ecosystems even more within our pbl unit.

Reading  = This week we will continue working on making inferences to understand casual relationships in nonfiction.  We will continue to use our mentor text=  A Picture Book of Harriet Tubman. 

Writing = This week we will be integrating technology with our Famous Missourian project.  We will have many options for creating a QR code: Powtoon, Google Slides, and Voki.

Math = We will be wrapping up Chapter 11 on Customary Measurement this week.  We are converting time and looking at line plots.  At the end of the week, we will be starting Chapter 12 which works with Metric Units.

Spelling = Team Meyer will receive new words on Monday.  We will work with these words throughout the week and Test on Friday.

Reading  = This week we will continue working on making inferences to understand casual relationships in nonfiction.  Our mentor text will be A Picture Book of Harriet Tubman.  At the end of the week, Miss Horrell will be teaching her lesson incorporating Art with another great mentor text.

Writing = This week we will be wrapping up several writing pieces we have been working on.  We will complete our Comic Writing, Famous Missourian Biographies, and look ahead to more information writing.

Math = Chapter 11 begins this week and we are working with Measurement.  We will explore many different units which describe length, weight, converting time, and line plotting data.  Chapter 10 quizzes will be going home early this week so please be looking for them in your child's red folder.  Please sign and return to school.

Spelling = Team Meyer will receive new words on Monday.  We will work with these words throughout the week and Test on Friday.  

Social Studies= At the end of last week, we began our next PBL unit.  It involves our Nature Unleashed curriculum from the Conservation Department.  Please be sure to check Twitter for the most up to date info and pictures throughout this week.

Plays of Week #28

Reading  = This week we will be working with looking at relationships in nonfiction.  Our mentor text will be Coming to America.  It deals with immigration so the students may be thinking about their culture and here their family came from.

Writing = We will be wrapping up our Lego writing when we return from Spring Break.  I have been very impressed with the comics I have been seeing so far.  Our goal is to prepare them for publishing and share with our classmates.

Math = Chapter 10 focuses on Decimals.  We will compare decimals and fractions, use place value to add, and compare and order fractions.

Spelling = Team Meyer will receive new words on Tuesday.  We will work with these words throughout the week and Test on Friday.  

Social Studies= This week we will continue to explore our Famous Missourians.  This year we are thrilled to have more tech, around to help the students with things they need more guidance with.  Please be thinking of how your child will choose to dress up like their Famous Missourian (more details to come with that).
