Plays of Week #18

Reminders for the Upcoming Week

Reading  = Thank you Team Meyer for working hard on the iReady testing.  We have some who need to finish from being absent, but we will finish it up early this week.  This week we will be doing some close holiday reading along with digging in deeper with our Auggie and Friends book.

Writing = This week we are finishing publishing our writing pieces sharing them. We will also be talking about ways to make our Writer's Notebook more digital for next semester.

Math = With the iReady testing, we moved our Chapter 6 test for this Wednesday.  On Monday and Tuesday Mrs. Castillo will be guiding us through some math explorations.

Spelling = Due to a short week, there will be no new spelling words this week.

Science = Team Meyer will be working on several Matter experiments this week and testing this week.

Plays of Week #17

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Holiday Food and Quarter Donations begin and goes through Dec. 16
Monday 12/7 = Multiplication Test
Tuesday 12/8 = Library Check out
Friday 12/11 = Multiplication Test and Chapter 6 Math Test

Reading  = This week we will be taking our iReady middle of the year test this week.  we will, also, continue to analyze text structure through the texts The Princess and the Pizza and Chicken Sunday.

Writing = This week we will be doing our final revisions and edits to our Personal Narrative.  We will be publishing at the end of this week and the beginning of next week.

Math = Keep practicing those multiplication facts to help with division.  This week we will be wrapping up Chapter 6 by dividing great numbers, adding in more division word problems, and finding quotients with zeros.  Tentatively we will be testing over Chapter 6 this Friday.  We will, also, be iReady testing in Math this week.

Spelling = Team Meyer and their Words their Way spelling groups are working hard.  They will receive new words on Monday, work with their words throughout the week, and be tested on Friday.

Science = Team Meyer completed their Matter projects last week.  Look for those to be up in the hallway soon.  We will be reviewing and testing over Matter this week.

Plays of Week #16

Reminders for the Upcoming Week
Holiday Food and Quarter Donations begin and goes through Dec. 16
Monday 11/30 = Multiplication Test
Tuesday 12/1 = Library Check out
Thursday 12/3 = 1st grade performance
Friday 12/4 = Multiplication Test

Reading  = When we return from break, we will begin thinking about "Analyzing Text Structure" of the stories we read.  We will begin with the text Thunder Cake  and The Princess and the Pizza.   

Writing = I was very impressed the creative writing last week with our "Save the Turkey" piece.  When we return from break on the 30th we will continue to work on our personal narrative piece.  We will be peer revising and editing using our Chrome books.

Math = Chapter 6 over Division is going well.  This week we will continue making models while thinking about division and dividing with remainders. We will, also, work with long division and the distributive property.

Spelling Team Meyer and their Words their Way spelling groups are working hard.  They will receive new words on Monday, work with their words throughout the week, and be tested on Friday.

Science = In the upcoming weeks we will be wrapping up our Science unit with a more hands on approach.  We will work in teams to show what we have learned.  I can't wait to see what they create.

Reading  = This week we are wrapping up our Questioning strategy practice.  Please Check out our Padlet we used for our Text Feature Scavenger Hunt = http://padlet.com/cmmeyer/2aeygvkgr98  When we come back from break we will begin thinking about "Analyzing Text Structure" of the stories we read.  We will begin with the text Thunder Cake  and The Princess and the Pizza.

Important Dates in November
Thanksgiving Break = November 25-27

Reading  = We are continuing Questioning with the book entitled Animal Senses.  We are going to wonder about their eye sight, hearing, and sense of smell this week.  We are brainstorming our "I wonder" statements through non-fiction.  Also, this past week we worked on our Lexia goal.  Please ask your child how they are doing within the program and what their goals are.

Writing = This week with our Personal Narrative we will look at similes and metaphors and adding to the heart of our story.  Also, this week we will work on adding to the heart of our story and editing by the end of the week.

Math =  Chapter 5 Tests will be given back early this week.  We will, also, begin Chapter 6 on Tuesday.  It is a large chapter that works with Division.  Please be sure we are working on Multiplication facts at home to help with division.  The more confidence we can gain with multiplication the better.

Science= Last week, we started our unit on Matter.  This week we will continue to think about it with more of a hands on approach with groups and experiments.

Reading  = We have begun our strategy of Questioning when we read.  We have used the book Snakes and really enjoyed learning about them and coming up with our wondering statements.  Check out our padlet from Friday with our Wonders... 

Writing = We worked on drafting our personal narratives this week.  Please ask your child what they chose for their topic and why.  This week, we will add to our drafts, add in dialogue, and add sensory details.

Math = With our short week, we began digging into Chapter 5 and will continue to do so this week.  It is a shorter chapter than the other ones we have completed so we will set a tentative date for testing on Thursday (it may be later).  Please ask your child about the area model and turtle head strategies we tried last week.  Here is a link to the short clip we watched on Friday to help us with 2 digit times 2 digit numbers.

Writing = Our main focuses for this week and our personal narratives will be: Sensory Details and Smooth Transitions. 

Math = Chapter 4 Test was sent home at the end of last week.  Please sign and return as soon as possible.  This week, we are beginning Chapter 5 and will be thinking about estimating products, and multiplying by a 2 digit number.

Spelling = There will be no new spelling words this week due to the short week.

Reading  = We will continue looking at expository text and use the mentor text Italian Americans.  Then we will move beyond Text Features and think about how to enhance our Questioning skills while reading.

Writing = Last week, I was very impressed with how well Team Meyer used their Writing Partnerships to revise and edit their writing pieces.  This week, we are going to publish and celebrate the writing process.  We will, also, being our Personal Narrative Writing Unit.

Math = Early this week we will be wrapping up Chapter 4.  Our test will be this Wednesday.  Also, this week, we will begin our facts tests.  Please encourage your child to practice their multiplication facts to help build confidence with this.  Later in the week, we will begin Chapter 5 which also deals with Multiplication and Division.

PBL= This is our last week for Animal Shelter Donations.  Please send in any and all you can.  Also, we hope during conferences you are able to enjoy our Animal Shelter posters, Showing Kindness Posters, and Project Based Learning Wall in the hallway by the APR.
