Due to the Snow Days last week, many of the updates are a continuation Plays of Week #25

Writing = This week we are going to use some of both writing and social studies time to complete our Famous Missourian projects.  We will pick up on our Imagined Narrative pieces at the end of the week. However, please be sure to check out the Memorable Moments iMovies that were posted this past week.  Team Meyer worked very hard on them and you should all be very proud!

Math = We are continuing to work within Chapter 9 - dealing with Fractions.  Team Meyer did a great job adding and subtracting like fractions last week.  This week, we will add and subtract mixed numbers.  At the end of the week, we will be multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

Spelling= Look for new spelling words to come home on Monday.  Since this week is a normal length week, we will be back to our regular spelling schedule.  We will be testing on Friday.

Social Studies = 4th Grade Famous Missourian Project = Please be sure to check out the tab on our blog labeled "Our Favorites" for more specific information.  Last week, all of Team Meyer decided who their Famous Missourian was and this week we will create our biographies for our project.  We will learn where our Missourian was born, about their birthplace, childhood, 3 facts, a timeline of their life, and why they/were famous.  Be sure to check out the website below and the "Our Favorites" tab.  This Thursday, Team Meyer will be dressing up like their Famous Missourian - be sure to begin brainstorming your outfit and/or props.

Here is it...the Moment you have all been Waiting for...Team Meyer's Memorable Moments

Credits: Team Meyer took their Personal Narratives or what we called "Memorable Moments" through the Writing Process, took the pictures of their final copies, recorded their voices, and helped to edit within the iMovie App before Publishing these.

(I was very impressed with what they could do with their writing and the use of technology)

Plays of Week #25

Reminders for the Week
2/16 Monday = No School - President's Day
2/17 Tuesday = No School - Snow Day!

Reading - This week we will continue to Infer and Visualize using the book Hurricane by David Wiesner.  Please be sure to have your child write on their Reading Log this week about inferences they are making in their independent books even at home.  On Friday, we will have our weekly Smarter Balanced reading strategy focus.

Writing - This week we are going to reflect on the Imagined/Adventure Narrative writing rubric and continue to plan our drafts.  On Friday, we will be drafting our piece.  Please be thinking of your ideas and share them with your family.  The more we can create a mental movie of our stories the better.

Math - On Friday, Mrs. Castillo (our Math Coach) came in and helped us with an exploration with improper fractions and mixed numbers.  Check out the pictures below and how your child what they learned.  I was very impressed with what and how the students of Team Meyer helped explain the aspects of fractions to each other.  This week, we will be adding and subtracting like fractions.  At the end of the week, we will be adding mixed numbers and continue into it the next week.

Spelling - Since this week has become shorter with the snow day we will not be getting new words until next week.  We will simply work with words common to fourth grade for these 3 days.  Please look for new words on Monday.

Content - Last week, we began looking at Famous Missourians.  This week, Team Meyer will decide which Famous Missourian they will choose for their 4th grade Famous Missourian Biography project.  Check out the pictures below of us beginning our projects.  They will learn where they were born, about their birthplace, childhood, 3 facts, a timeline of their life, and why they/were famous.  If you want a jump start on the project or need help deciding who to choose be sure to check out the website below.  On Thursday Feb. 26th, the 4th graders will be dressing up as their Famous Missourian.

Reading = Inference is our focus, but now we are going to incorporate visualization as well.  We will be wrapping up our comprehension by comprehension by going beyond the text A Picture Book of Harriet Tubman by David Adler.  Then we will read one of my favorite books for visualization entitled Hurricane by David Wiesner.  Along with our whole group focus, we will continue to use all of our reading strategies in small group and independent work.

Writing = Our Adventure/Imagined Narrative Ideas are underway.  This week we will continue to brainstorm and look at sample writing.  Along with that we will think about our characters' dialogue finding voice in our pieces as well as our clear sequence of events.

Math = We have been exploring fractions this past week in Chapter 8.  This upcoming week, we will continue with fraction thinking more about comparing and ordering them.  We will also look at mixed fractions and improper fractions towards the end of the week.  Check out the pictures below to see the manipulatives we have been working with in class.

Spelling = Please look for the new words coming home on Monday and we will be testing on Thursday because it is a short week.
